When we took over Minnedosa Bowl & Gutters Pizza, I began a new chapter of personal and professional development. I threw myself into an unfamiliar business with constraints radically different from my nearly three decades of experience in professional software development. This brought with it an unsurprising amount of learning and reflexion. Most notably, I started practising what I’ve come to preach since I first began caring about personal improvement, some time in the late 1990s.
I’ve begun sharing that with the world in the form of “Walk & Talk” videos.
When I run an errand down at the other end of Main St, which is about 850 m or 1/2 mile away, I often have some observation or anecdote in mind, drawn from my daily practice. I record these in the hopes that you might find them helpful: instructive, uplifting, hopeful… whatever you need.
You can think of these videos as “from the trenches”, especially the early videos, where the rubber was meeting the road very intensely and I was struggling to make progress, to keep up with evolving demand, and to get through the initial furious stage of Too Much to Do. In early October it felt like we were treading water, so the character of these videos changes, but the overall vibe of reflective optimism remains.
I invite you to follow along. Start here, then if you like what you see, smash that Subscribe button and turn on Notifications, or however the cool kids beg for your attention these days. I can’t keep up.
Wait… What?!
Yes, we bought a bowling center. No, I haven’t given up on professional software development. Yes, you can still work with me at The jbrains Experience. Even though I’m making pizzas more and shipping software features less, the lessons remain the same, especially when it comes to feeling safe, managing my workload, and playing better with others.
Please consider watching the videos, subscribing to my channel, and joining The jbrains Experience as a way to both support my work and have the adviser you need on your personal team. Personal coaching was, after all, supposed to be the Hot Trend of 2026.
